A GUIDE TO COLOUR BLOCKING

Colour blocking is this seasons hottest trend and it is not a trend which can be executed half heartedly. To ensure you pop with colour successfully I've put together my top ten colour blocking tips...

1) Stick to two or three colours; no-one wants to look like the rainbow so stick to no more than three colours to ensure you don't overcomplicate your outfit.

2) No prints; try to avoid any clothing containing prints as this will make your outfit too fussy.

3) Nude or black accessories; you want your clothes to stand out and speak for themselves with this trend, and that means that nothing should be distracting from your colour popping ensemble so make sure you keep your accessories simple.

4) Wear with confidence; this is of course an important rule for any trend but when it comes to colour blocking it is essential as you are creating a bold statement, so keep your head held high and wear with pride.

5) Avoid detail; try to avoid frills and tassels or too many pockets as this will take away the impact of the overall look.

6) Try a ready made colour block dress; if you are struggling with this trend then buy a dress that already contains it such as the one below from Boohoo.

7) Don't be afraid; don't be scared of being bold and wearing colours that you usually wouldn't - that's the whole point.

8) Keep your make-up minimal; try not to use too many colours whilst doing your make-up as you do not want to mirror the trend on your face and give the overall impact of a clown.

9) Separate warm and cold colours; try to keep warm colours such as orange and pink together and likewise keep cold colours together such as blue and green.

10) Nude heels; if you are finding it difficult to decide what heels to wear with your fashion forward colour blocking outfit then I would advise going for nude heels - they never fail.
